Lenovo Smart Display gives Google's Assistant a screen

With Alexa, customers can simply ask for directions, control entertainment, get the news, add items to a shopping list, control their smart home while on the road, and more, Toyota says.

Amazon is integrating the Alexa virtual assistant into more non-Amazon devices, including desktop and laptop computers from several manufacturers, a line of Kohler products and new vehicle models, according to The Verge and other publications covering the announcements coming out of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.

The more substantive matter here is that, once I get over the privacy concern of having Google know everything about my life, I'll want it to also know how the contents of my fridge are doing, and to convey that information to me.

"T$3 hrough our integration with Amazon Alexa, Toyota and Lexus customers will soon be able to easily speak to Alexa in their cars while on-the-go", Toyota Vice President Zack Hicks said. The company first partnered with Bose to deliver Google Assistant enabled headphones in years past.

A slew of well-known consumers brands are making a big bet on Google's AI including Lenovo and LG. The company is promising support "in the coming months", which means that you will be using Assistant perhaps by middle of the year.

These will, importantly, allow users to watch YouTube videos.

The Link View is a smart display speaker with of course Google Assistant embedded into the device.

Further, Google has also announced that they will make its Google Assistant service available to more smart displays in the future.

However, one manufacturer - Whirlpool - appeared unwilling to choose a favourite.

The Alexa-enabled wearable is just one of the many products vendors will showcase at the annual consumer tech gathering this week.

Customers will be able to access Alexa's range of skills - as its voice applications are called - while in the vehicle. TV makers such as Hisense, Xiaomi, and Skyworth will be bringing Google's voice-activated helper to their Android TVs.

For analyst Simon Bryant at market research firm Futuresource, the current leader is easy to identify. In fact, we've sold more than one Google Home every second since Google Home Mini started shipping in October.
