"It's unpredictable", she said. Some protection is better than none, and the flu may be less severe in people who have been vaccinated.
Administrators with the FWISD are asking students who are sick to stay home and wait 24 hours after their fever returns to normal before returning to school.
"Some people just choose to stay home and tough it out", Kaltenberg said.
Anyone whose symptoms improve but return with fever or worse cough should get help right away.
The 2017-18 flu season in OH and nationally is looking similar to what was seen during the 2014-15 flu season which at the time was the most severe flu season in recent years, according to the (CDC). Normally we don't peak until January and February, but it started long before the holidays this year.

"All four strains are circulating to some level, but the majority (of cases) are the strain we know causes more severe influenza seasons", Baber said.
Anti-viral drugs can be prescribed for people with underlying heart or respiratory illnesses, and they should arrange that in advance, even if they've had the seasonal flu shot, Kendall said.
