Rick Scott signed a proclamation indicating that "the UCF Knights are this season's best college football team and will be recognized as the 2017 College Football National Champions in Florida". Auburn had defeated both Alabama and Georgia in the regular season-giving each their only loss as they head into the CFB Playoff title game. That flawless season was capped with a 34-27 win in the Peach Bowl on New Year's Day against Auburn, a team that beat both Georgia and Alabama earlier in the season.

The undefeated Knights capped their 13-0 season with a win over Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

UCF football fans on Sunday packed the hometown theme park emblematic of championship celebrations, cheering their team's Cinderella season near Cinderella's castle at Disney World in Orlando. I wish both teams good luck tonight in Atlanta.

UCF finished with the only ideal season in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The school was controversially left out of the college playoff, but it hasn't stopped the state of Florida from celebrating.

UCF feels its accomplishment in winning the American Athletic Conference championship was undervalued by the CFP selection committee, which listed the Knights 12th in the panel's final rankings.
