The 22-year-old mother called 911 to report she was afraid of her husband Barry Wells
It was then, shortly before 10 a.m., that NY police officers found the pregnant 22-year-old's dead body at the bottom of a basement staircase, WCBS reported, but it wasn't the first time someone had called NYPD wondering what might be happening inside that Crown Heights home in Brooklyn, N.Y. Neighbors reportedly heard the woman's young daughter crying and called police for a wellness check. The officers were called on a report that Wells was "scared" and her husband was "acting amusing", but may never have left their auto, according to the New York Post. "They didn't even go up to the house".
"They seemed like a nice family", neighbor Michelle Ruiz said of the couple. The NYPD worked with New Rochelle police to take Barry Wells into custody.
"An initial determination deemed this person's death to be suspicious and it is now being investigated", Deputy Chief Michael Kempfer said. Police officials are also looking into whether the 911 dispatcher gave the officers complete information about the incident.
